Department description:

The Engineering department performs complex maintenance duties, providing for safety and comfort of the guest and employees.

Position summary:

Director of Projects and Engineering directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration and completion of engineering and construction projects within area of assigned responsibility by performing the essential duties and responsibilities mentioned below. He/she also manages the Engineering department in its daily operations working closely with the Chief Engineer.

Position in the organization:

Immediate supervisor: Director of Operations

Supervises: Project Contractors and the Engineering department staff

Essential duties and responsibilities:

- Ensure all projects are completed according to specifications and are completed on time based on CAPEX planning.
- Provide scope, schedule and budget on all assigned projects.
- Contract and manage the design and construction for all assigned projects.
- Meet with architects to discuss blueprints, contacts contractors top submit bids for new constructions, and meets with construction supervisors to discuss different phases of work.
- Study work schedules and estimates worker-hour requirements for completion of job assignments.
- Coordinate the service performed by outside contractors in accordance to all contracts, leases, service agreements and warranties.
- Project accounting functions including managing the budget, tracking expenses, and minimizing exposure and risk.
- Plan and implement and maintain engineering program. Including defining the project, philosophy, activities, milestones, and staff requirements
- Ensure project documents are completed timely.
- Communicate and report statuses of all projects to General Manager.
- Inform management of any safety hazards.
- Adhere to the Green policies in conjunctions with ISO 14001 standards and requirements.
- Has the daily lead along with the chief engineer in the Engineering department.
- Make sure that the work order process runs smoothly.
- Update yearly maintenance schedule in a timely manner before the next cycle to tackle ongoing issues on specific areas with a dully task list and discuss with the Director of Operations and General Manager.
- Manage all records concerning heat, light and power, and costs of the facility.
- Adhere to the safety policy of the company, reports all incidents immediately regardless of the level of severity of the incident.

It is clearly understood that the above mentioned tasks and responsibilities are not limitative and that the Employer may require from you to perform other/and or additional tasks to the benefit of the Resort’s operations.

Position requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Experience: a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a relevant position

SKILLS

Knowledge:

- Must have experience with multiple concurrent projects and experience leading teams.
- Ability to study analyze and interpret complex activities and/or information in order to improve new practices or develop new approaches.

Communication skills:

- Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
- Additional knowledge of Spanish, Dutch and Papiamento languages preferred.
- Written and verbal communication is necessary for comprehension of written reports and evaluations.
- Provide solutions to improve problem areas and assisting in implementing corrective measures.

Social skills:

- Must maintain a professional attitude and conduct oneself in positive manner at all times.
- Ability to work well in a team environment Able to motivate workers.
- Strong leadership skills to motivate and develop staff and to ensure accomplishment of goal.
- Be an excellent organizer and self-starter.

Computer skills:

- Auto CAD, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook

- Strong organizational and administrative abilities.
- Ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Well-developed decision-making and problem solving skills.
- Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work well within a deadline driven environment.

Physical requirement / Working conditions:

While performing the duties for this position, the employee is regularly required to:
- Walk & stand for long periods, depending on the task request.
